We are developing experimental tools to extract biological meaning from the flood of information being produced by the genome projects.

One major effort is devoted toward dissecting regulatory networks in mammalian cells. Other projects are aimed towards identifying genes for complex traits in the mouse and creating comprehensive atlases of gene and protein expression in the mammalian brain.

The figure shows a small part of a gene interaction network for > 99% of the mammalian genome created using patterns of co-retention in genotyping data from human, mouse, rat and dog radiation hybrid panels (Lin et al., Genome Res, 20:1122-1132, 2010). This network possesses greater than seven million interactions and compared to other available networks more fully approaches saturation.
