Biomedical Physics (BMP for short) is an Interdeparmental Graduate Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Educational Programs (CAMPEP, www.campep.org). This program is supported by, and draws its faculty from, the departments of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, Radiation Oncology, and Radiological Sciences within the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

The goal of our Biomedical Physics program has been to develop research scientists who are well versed in physics, engineering, biology, mathematics and computer science, and who understand the application of these disciplines to the instruments and techniques used in the fields of medical and biological imaging as well as therapeutic medical physics and radiation biology.

We do this by offering offer both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Physics through our four specialties:

Graduates in biomedical physics can expect to engage in any combination of clinical service, consultation, research, and teaching; Graduates from our program are currently employed in:

  • Academic Medical Centers such as UCLA, USC, University of Washington, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Michigan, Duke, University of Nebraska and many more, both in the US and abroad.

  • Government agencies such as the National Cancer Institute (NCI , part of the National Institutes of Health – NIH)

  • Private Industries such as GE Global Research, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Siemens Medical Solutions (formerly CTI Molecular Imaging) and many others.

  • Hospitals, private practices and medical physics consulting firms in southern California, Las Vegas, NV, San Antonio, TX, Washington DC area, and many more.
